On February 29, 2024, the Annie C. Courtney Foundation held its first annual gala, an enchanting evening dedicated to supporting the New Beginnings Program. This program will provide transitional housing for foster youth aging out of the system, aiming to offer them a stable foundation for their future endeavors.
The Venue
Remaining in Greater Waterbury is essential to keeping with the community goals of Annie C. This is why our gala took place at the Crystal Room in Naugatuck, Connecticut. This beautiful venue in a convenient location to our supporters was the perfect space and provided the ideal atmosphere for a successful evening.
A Warm Welcome
The evening began with a warm welcome from our Master of Ceremonies, Charneil Bush. His heartfelt words set the tone for the night. He emphasized the critical importance of transitional housing and the positive impact it can have on the lives of young adults stepping into independence.
Inspiring Words from Esteemed Speakers
Throughout the evening, attendees were moved by a series of inspiring speeches. James A. Higgins shared personal anecdotes and insights, highlighting the resilience and potential of foster youth, many of whom he has welcomed into his own home.
Vincent Espino followed, bringing a wealth of experience and a passionate plea for continued support for these young individuals. Through the explanation of his personal experience with homelessness, Vincent illuminated the importance of a support system. This is the very support system Annie C. strives to provide through the New Beginnings Program.
Christopher Baker-Scott added depth to the evening with his powerful message on the importance of community involvement and support. He illustrated how each contribution, no matter how small, plays a crucial role in building a brighter future for those aging out of the foster care system.
Silent Auction
The gala included an evening-long silent auction including items ranging in price from $15 to $1800. There were items for everyone and the auction was an incredible success. Items and services were donated by various generous individuals and businesses.
